When the newborn arrives, she sneaks stealthily into the night and arrives at a convent that has a foundling wheel. That device allows her to anonymously abandon her child to the care of the nuns so she can avoid the shame and possible death sentence from starvation. In surprise, the nuns exclaim “Good Faith!”  In the Italian language those same words are “bona fede.” On that day, the story of the patriarch of an Italian family begins and they name the child Carlo Bonafede.
