In Chapter 21 from the historic novel, A Brooklyn Tale:


Sick to their stomachs from their recent ice cream eating marathon, Matty and his brothers are set to the task, by Mama, of buying, slaughtering and plucking a live chicken for their upcoming dinner. The unusual slaughter method conducted by Matty was invented by Mama. Brothers Carlo

The couple build timeless stories of romance to share with their future children as they fall in love and marry.  At this stage the family finally realize that they have achived the American dream.

The family, once again, celebrates the traditional Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve in 1963. It is the last Christmas Barnaba will celebrate before she meets her family in heaven. Grandma Barnaba (aka Fanny) is seated here at the left, and the author Don Ladolcetta app

The family, once again, celebrates the traditional Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve in 1963. It is the last Christmas Barnaba will celebrate before she meets her family in heaven. Grandma Barnaba (aka Fanny) is seated here at the left, and the author Don Ladolcetta appears at the front in the red shirt. In the course of the meal, Don, sees Grandma’s pensive look and asks her questions that lead to the retelling of the family saga that started in 1876 at an orphanage in Marsala, Sicily.

Appendices in the historic novel, A Brooklyn Tale:


At the end of the book, the author includes a number of appendices.


  • The Epilogue-talks about where the family is in todays world.
  • Domain Photos-provides a group of photos from the public domain that illustrate aspects written about in the book.
  • True Tales Vs. Tall tales-The book is 75% true and comprises stories derived from the families oral history. The other 25% is imagined for theatrical license. In this appendix the author tells you what parts of the story are true and what parts were created for entertainment purposes.
  • Timeline of Historical and Family events-History and world events helped shape the family’s destiny. This year by year timeline details the years of world events side by side with the years of the family’s activities.
  • Why Italy Came to America-This is a documentary style narrative of Italian history during the period covered by the book. It discusses the political, cutural, economic and geographic influences that drove hundreds of thousands of Italians to emigrate to America.
